Whitney Houston has revealed that she was ready to quit music for good and retire last year.
The grammy award winner, who has not released any new material for six years, credited her long term friend and music mogul Clive Davis for helping her revive her stalled career.
She said: "When Clive called me, I was pretty ready to buy my island home [and retire], but he said 'No, you're going to sing again, people want to hear you'."
Houston, who split from husband Bobby Brown in 2007, told journalists at the premiere of her new LP in London: "I hope that these songs stay with you for a lifetime."

Houston's comeback album I Look to You is due for release in September.
I can't wait to hear the new material.
